Hey ladies...we have a lot to do this week and should probably get a start on it. We need to think of an assignment (staying within our topic) that we would do with our class to demonstrate global awareness, and then make a google map to go along with that. What kind of assignment should we do?
Then we need to each make a minute long movie on different topics that would introduce a lesson in our unit. Do you think it would be okay to just stick with the topics we did our lesson plans on?
Let me know what you guys think!
For the Penpal assignment we could have our students write to a class of students that live in a rural area. In the letters they could talk about the history of their different areas? How does that sound? And for the movie I think that the topics we did our lessons on are fine.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds good! We have to choose a specific city/state I believe. We also have to have a grade level. Should we do the same grade we did our lessons on, 2nd?
ReplyDeleteDo we want to pick a city in Northern Michigan? or some where out of state? I think it would be good to keep it all the same grade, what do you think?
ReplyDeletehmm, keeping it in the same state might be cool to kind of compare histories within the state...but I don't know if the purpose of the assignment was to do it farther away? Yes same grade sounds good to me. That way the pen pals are at about the same writing abilities.
ReplyDeleteI was reading back over the assignment and it says: in your class and in a class from a different place compare and contrast differences and similarities between their regions as they relate to the content of their projects
ReplyDeleteso if we were to do more a comparison of regions, we probably want to do it out of state. Perhaps have the students write to 2 other students, each one being from a different area of the country? Also, I think it would be a cool idea to maybe do something where as a class we would make like a video about where we live and then send it to the pen pals. Just a thought...
Also, it looks like we are supposed to discuss movie ideas on here...had anyone thought of any yet?
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a good start. I'll get the google document going and then you can look at it and edit it.
ReplyDeleteI don't really understand what we are supposed to do for the movies...what do you think?
Should we do 2 other students or just one? The example says your class and a class from another place. Two is fine with me, but do you think it would be better to focus on only one place to compare?
ReplyDeleteYa i suppose one would be better. I think we should pick a region that is different than ours, so maybe some where in the south?
ReplyDeleteMaybe like Montana or Idaho? Those are more rural places.
ReplyDeleteWe also need to think of what our students are doing with this information that they learn about the other town...maybe we could send them a movie about our history and make a movie about their history also?
I think either of those states sounds good. I will look for a city. I read what you put on the document, and I think that they are supossed to be "Epals" so i think the students wont be writing letters to each other but emailing each other. I like the idea about the movie. Like after a couple weeks of communicating back and forth with the other students we can put together a class movie about what we learned about their city
ReplyDeleteShould we do both movies, or just the one on their city?
ReplyDeleteboth maybe? or it would be cool if we could say that the other school was going to make a movie about kalamazoo
ReplyDeleteoh yeah i like that idea!
ReplyDeleteI found a little mining town in Montana called Sidney. Its population is 4,843, and its elementary school is West Side Elementary. Let me know what you guys think
ReplyDeleteThat will work!
ReplyDeleteHey guys!! Sorry, I've had a busy past few days. I just read through all of this and think that the ideas sound great. I also like the idea of making the movie about the other town!
ReplyDeleteWill you guys be around tonight to work on it some more?
ReplyDeleteMaggie said she's on her way home from work!
