Hey!
If you guys are going to be around tonight I plan on starting on this weeks work. I think for the podcasts we can just talk about the things that we did our lessons on. We will need to figure out an order they will go in since they have to flow together. Also we need to use concepts from the book, and we can't use the same ones. Let me know if you have any other ideas. I will be gone this weekend, so I will be doing everything in the next few days.
So I typed out the script for my podcast and this is it. We need to make them flow together so let me know how you guys think we should go about doing that.
ReplyDeleteHello parents and friends. Last week we introduced our exciting “Living Museum” unit in which we will be exploring different aspects of our local history. With this unit we will be looking a famous people in Kalamazoo’s history, famous historic places in Kalamazoo, the lifestyle and clothing from Kalamazoo’s history, and finally advertisements and new papers from Kalamazoo’s history. This week we will be looking at historic places in Kalamazoo. We will begin the week by watching a digital story that will showcase some famous places. From there we will collect data on how many of our fellow students have actually visited these historic places. We will do this by using an Excel spread sheet, and then we will create a graph in Excel from our data. To wrap up our week about historic places in Kalamazoo we will partner up and do a research project. Each set of partners will be assigned a historic place that they will have to research and create a powerpoint presentation on. Look for information on the project to come home early in the week. This unit should be a very exciting one. I can’t wait to get started on it!
I havent written mine yet....but I feel like the last two sentences should be saved for the very end of the podcast. I think it will flow together better if we go from idea to idea and then have those be the closer.
ReplyDeleteKelsey, what concepts from the book did you use?
ReplyDeleteAlso...just reading through this again, I don't think we actually were going to look at advertisements and newspapers from Kalamazoo's history, were we? I thought the advertising was just something the kids were going to learn about in order to advertise for their living museum.
ReplyDeleteOkay...this is what I came up with for my podcast. I don't know if it ends too abruptly, but I don't really know what a good closer would be. I didn't want to put any kind of big ending on it if we are supposed to have them flow. Would love some feedback from you girls when you get a chance to look at it! The concepts from the book that I used were about team planning, deadlines and time planning, and sharing the assessment rubric.
ReplyDeleteThe following week in our local history unit we will be learning about important people in our area’s history. The students will be shown another digital story to begin this part of the unit. This digital story is focused on people of Kalamazoo’s history and will give students an idea of a few people they will be learning about. Then the students will work collaboratively in groups of two and choose one person in Kalamazoo’s history to research. Once their research is completed, they will work together to complete a 1-2 minute podcast reflecting the knowledge they gained on that person. They will play their podcast for the class. This project will be beneficial to the students because they will learn how to use a hotlist for research, how to safely use the internet, how to work in a team and manage a team, and finally, how to become effective managers of their time to meet a deadline. The students will learn about other important people in our history through listening to their classmates’ podcasts. They will be required to take notes on each podcast to ensure that they are taking knowledge away from the work their peers have done. Next, the students will be collecting data on which person the students found to be the most interesting and recording it on an Excel spreadsheet. They will summarize the data by creating a graph in the program as well. Finally, the students will work in their original pairs to put together their “Living Museum” exhibit. One group member will dress up as their historical person while the other will read a summary of information about the person for the museum visitors. For each project I will provide the students with the assessment rubric I will use to grade them. This will inform students what is expected of them and how they can get the most out of the project. The rubrics will be somewhat flexible, however, and will leave room for students’ creativity.
Maggie,
ReplyDeleteI wasnt sure where the concepts from the book were in the book so i emailed the professors to see what they wanted us to use. Also, are we going to have the podcast be something that would give a weekly update or something that they would hear all the way through before the lesson began? Also, with the advertisements I understood it the way you did where it would be for our living museum, but Kari took it the other way and has been talking about it in that way. So idk what we want to do.
I think since the assignment said it should flow together that they are hearing the whole thing.
ReplyDeleteOk. So whos should we put first?
ReplyDeleteMaybe if mine went first and I ended it by saying look for information on the project to come home early in the first week of the unit. and then yours started?
ReplyDeleteI think yours, since you have the greeting at the beginning. I just kind of did mine as if it would be after yours since it was the only one done. But I guess we could change them around if you wanted.
ReplyDeleteI like it the way they are. I will do mine tonight and then post it on here so that you can hear how it ends. And i guess Kari can just make hers go after yours. Also, do you know if our music should flow with each others?
ReplyDeleteThat sounds good. How do you think I should end mine? Maybe since I talked about the rubrics say something about sending them home for the parents to see as well, and something about encouraging them to help their student with the project?
ReplyDeleteHmm...it might be better if we all used the same music, just in case.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds good. and then its gotta be somethng that Kari can continue on from as well
ReplyDeleteok. want me just yo pick the music and send it to you guys? or if you have time now you can look for some
ReplyDeleteEither way is fine.
ReplyDeleteok. i will just do it then i guess
ReplyDeletehi girls! Sorry I've been at work since 8:30. I just read through all of this and have a few concerns. I'm not sure what I would do my podcast on. It's been troubling for me throughout the whole class so far to find a good topic, as you both know. Could we maybe come up with a few ideas for what mine could be about?
ReplyDeleteBoth of yours look great, just a few flowing issues, like Kelseys moving into Maggies or whatever.
Let me know when a good time for us to all talk would be so we can brainstorms ideas :)
what issue with flowing? and the teacher emailed me back and said that we can use any ideas from the book
ReplyDeleteWhat have you done your lessons on so far? I honestly don't even know what you've been doing with yours. And I don't think the podcasts need to directly flow together...they just can't jump around from one subject to another and then back to the first one. I think as long as we have a "and then the next week" type of beginning we will be fine.
ReplyDeleteI don't know when we'll all be able to talk, you both work all day and I work at night and then kels will be gone this weekend.
I really haven't done mine on much of anything. They've been on just really general topics. I was thinking for the podcasts that Maggie could talk about the people, Kelsey could talk about the Buildings, and I would talk about how we're going to bring it all together into the living museum at the end? That would mean a big of editing for Maggie, but I cannot think of anything else to do for it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I woke up this morning and have no voice. So I hope it comes back soon. =/
That's fine, I can take some stuff out! :) And I am starting to get a sore throat...so I should probably record mine before I lose my voice too!
ReplyDeleteThis is my podcast script....
ReplyDeleteHello parents and friends. This week we will be introducing our exciting “Living Museum” unit in which we will be exploring different aspects of our local history. A large part of this unit will be focused on technology, and research using the internet. Students will learn how to learn from credible electronic resources, and the critical thinking skills it takes to select these sources. With this use of technology we will also be taking advantage of our more technologically advanced students. This unit will allow those students with more technology experience to help others who have less experience. With this unit we will be looking at famous people in Kalamazoo’s history, famous historic places in Kalamazoo, the lifestyle and clothing from Kalamazoo’s history, and what it would take to run a museum. During this first week we will be looking at historic places in Kalamazoo. Once all students have presented their power points, we will move on to the part of our unit on the people of Kalamazoo.
Ok so mine is all done. When we post them we need to let him know what order we will out them in, so I will wait for you guys to do yours to post mine. Let me know when yours are done
ReplyDeleteAlright this is what I came up with. Still have to record it.
ReplyDeleteDuring the next part of our local history unit, the students will be learning about important people in our area’s history. The students will be shown another digital story to begin this part of the unit. This digital story is focused on people of Kalamazoo’s history and will give students an idea of a few people they will be learning about. Then the students will work collaboratively in groups of two and choose one person in Kalamazoo’s history to research. This will inform students what is expected of them and how they can get the most out of the project. The rubrics will be somewhat flexible, however, and will leave room for students’ creativity. I will also send rubrics home for all of you parents and caregivers and I encourage you to get involved with your student’s work. During the next and final part of our unit, the students will be organizing a “Living Museum” as well as advertising their museum to the community.
Here's my script:
ReplyDeleteAfter completing all of the research, the students will be presenting the information they found in a “living museum”. To start this off they will meet with an expert. A curator from a local museum will be coming in to discuss how to advertise for an exhibit and what it takes for one to run smoothly. The students will work in their groups of two to present the information that they gained while doing their research. Each group will present about a famous person and a famous building. The students will be dressed with appropriate clothing to the decade their person was from. The students will first present the information to the school. They will create advertisements with advice from our special guest and place them around the school. As a class, we will also write an advertisement to be given to the public. Parents and the local community will be invited to come view the “living museum” after it has been presented to the school. The next day students will collect information from each classroom on what their favorite group was. As a class we will then put the information into a spreadsheet on Excel. The “living museum” is a great way for the students to share the information that they have learned during this unit. More information will be sent home on the dates and times of the museum as it draws closer. This is a very exciting unit for us as a class, and we hope that as parents you will be involved as well. Thank you for being so supportive! We wouldn’t be able to pull this unit off without you!
Those look good, so is it going to go mine, Maggies, Karis?
ReplyDeleteyes...i posted that mine was the second one. sorry so late, i just got home from work!
